The Worry About the Conventional Impression
When new crowns, bridges, or splints are planned, the dentist previously had to make an exact copy of the teeth. For many patients, this very moment was the most unpleasant part of the entire treatment.
- •The Unwelcome Gag Reflex: A large metal or plastic tray presses deep against the palate, which inevitably leads to considerable discomfort in many people.
- •Sticky Impression Material: The tough material must harden motionless in the mouth for minutes – a stressful sensation, often accompanied by a perceived unpleasant taste.
- •Repetitions Needed: From time to time, an impression was not sharp enough on the first attempt, so the entire procedure had to be repeated on the patient.
All of this is only necessary in rare exceptions at our practice thanks to modern impression-free technology. We use light instead.
A Quick Photo Instead of Sticky Material
With digital impressions, merely a very slim, pen-like camera (scanner) glides calmly along your dental arches at a slight distance. This special camera captures a multitude of highly precise images of your teeth in the shortest time.
While you lie completely relaxed in the treatment chair and can breathe normally, our computer immediately assembles these many light images into a high-resolution, three-dimensional computer model of your mouth. Pain-free and without any kind of harmful radiation.
Why Digital Is Simply More Pleasant
Physical Relief
Since nothing is pressed deep against your palate and no material needs to harden, you can simply lean back during scanning.
Immediate Review
Is a small area missing from the image? The scanner is simply held on the missing tooth for a second again – entirely without starting over.
Transparency
You see your teeth directly in colour and 3D on our monitor. We can show you exactly where, for example, a new inlay will be placed.
Seamless Handover
The data is sent encrypted to our in-house dental laboratory in seconds – for timely, very exact results.
How Our Patients Experience the Technology
High-Tech for Your Comfort
A calmer, more relaxed atmosphere at the treatment chair is exactly what we wish for you. The digital impression is one of the most significant milestones of modern dentistry.
Should additional private costs arise for the digital impression in your specific treatment case (as is the case with some insurers), we discuss this in our preliminary conversation absolutely openly and transparently.
When Does the Scanner Not Work?
The scanner delivers excellent and usable results in approximately 90 percent of all treatments. However, there are occasional anatomical exceptions.
- ✓When a preparation margin lies far below the gum line, the camera light cannot always fully capture it.
- ✓For prosthetic planning with very few remaining teeth, a conventional impression is occasionally necessary to precisely and fully capture the soft tissue.
How the Scanning Process Works
Discussion & Preparation
We gently dry the relevant teeth with a gentle airstream, as too much saliva could irritate the camera lens.
The Scanning Process
Our team guides the scanner along your teeth with minimal contact. The process is often completely finished after one to two minutes.
Joint Examination
The virtual image of your teeth appears directly on the monitor in front of you. You see in 3D what shape your jaw has and what we are planning.
Digital Handover
We then forward the model with a mouse click to the master laboratory, where it serves as a millimetre-precise basis for your new dental prosthetics or splint.
One Major Hurdle Less
For patients with a very pronounced and sensitive gag reflex, visiting the clinic has been a real ordeal. The modern, light-based recording of the teeth removes precisely this hurdle. The feeling of material in the throat and unpleasant tastes are generally a thing of the past. With this method, the preparation for dental prosthetics loses its terror for most patients.
Mehr zu unseren Comfort-Optionen →Many patients reflexively squeeze their eyes shut at the word 'impression'. When they then realise that we only film with a handy camera and everything stays pleasantly dry, the relief is written all over their faces.
