Root Canal Treatment
Consistent Preservation of Your Own Tooth

When bacteria penetrate deep into the interior of a tooth, the nerve becomes inflamed. A root canal treatment is often the last, but well-proven option to save the affected tooth from surgical extraction and preserve it in the jaw.

The Symptoms

When the Tooth Nerve Raises the Alarm

An inflammation of the dental pulp caused by caries, deep trauma, or an accident is a serious, usually painful infection that can burden the entire body.

 • Throbbing Pain: Many patients report sudden, sharp, or strongly throbbing pain that often intensifies significantly when lying down or at night.
 • Increased Temperature Sensitivity: The tooth reacts massively and persistently to cold (cold water) or heat (hot coffee/tea).
 • Pressure Sensitivity: When biting down or even with light touch, the tooth feels 'too high' or very pressure-sensitive.

If this inflammation is ignored, it can spread via the root tip into the surrounding jawbone and cause abscesses.

Root Canal Treatment - MEDICAL ART München Bogenhausen
The Treatment Approach

Precise Cleaning of the Root Canal

The goal of endodontics is to remove the bacteria-colonised tissue from the tooth interior and the sometimes highly branched root canal system as thoroughly as possible, without having to extract the tooth as a whole.

At the MEDICAL ART clinic in Munich Bogenhausen, we perform these technique-sensitive treatments with great care, using magnification technology and highly flexible, machine-driven specialist instruments.

Precise Cleaning of the Root Canal - MEDICAL ART München Bogenhausen
Why MEDICAL ART?

Technology for Higher Success Rates

Endometric Length Measurement

We electronically measure the exact length of the root canals to perform cleaning precisely to the root tip.

Working with Magnification

The very fine, microscopically small root canals can barely be found and cleaned with the naked eye. We use loupes to reliably find and prepare even fine branch

Machine-Assisted Canal Preparation

Highly flexible rotating instruments prepare the very fine canals in a substance-preserving manner, while special irrigation protocols eliminate remaining bacte

Secure Seal

We then fill the cleaned area with gutta-percha (a biocompatible rubber material) and seal the tooth.

Transparency Before the Procedure

Saving your own tooth long-term is very often the most sensible and most natural solution. However, the effort involved in a complex root canal treatment is high and requires state-of-the-art technology and sufficient time.

We discuss the treatment effort and expected costs with you transparently from the outset.

Costs & Reimbursement

Root Canal Treatment and Insurance Subsidies

Reimbursement guidelines distinguish between standard procedures and modern, complex preparations.

 • Treatment and cost plan: For time-intensive methods that offer a significantly higher prognosis (e.g., length measurement, specific machine files, special ultrasonic irrigations), a privately borne out-of-pocket share is generally required.
 • Consider follow-up costs: A successful endodontic treatment is in many cases more economical than later replacement of the extracted tooth (e.g., with an implant).
Step by Step

Course of Root Canal Treatment

01

Diagnostics & Anaesthesia

A digital X-ray gives us information about the degree of inflammation. After a gentle local anaesthetic, we carefully test whether the tooth is deeply anaesthetised.

02

Access and Preparation

We create a gentle access to the nerve tissue. With the finest needles and machine-driven files, the diseased tissue is carefully removed from the canals.

03

Intensive Disinfection

The canals are thoroughly irrigated with special medical solutions to bacterially clean even the deepest branches.

04

Root Filling and Restoration

The cleaned space is then tightly sealed. Since root-treated teeth can become brittle over the years, they often subsequently receive stabilising partial crowns or crowns for long-term protection.

Is the Treatment Painful?

Many patients associate the term 'root canal treatment' with the horror stories of past decades. This is unfounded today. The greatest source of pain is the inflamed nerve itself, with which you come to our practice. Modern and well-tolerated anaesthetics allow us in the vast majority of cases to make the treatment largely pain-free. After the anaesthesia wears off, the throbbing toothache is usually gone.

Frequently Asked Questions About Endodontics

It is normal for the surrounding tissue and bone area to remain slightly irritated or sensitive to pressure (bite) for a few days after the procedure. This is the body's healing phase and can be bridged well with home remedies or regular painkillers. If it starts throbbing, please contact us.
If an infection persists in the bone for months despite medicinal irrigations and careful filling, the infected root tip can be removed as one of the last options through a small surgical procedure to save the remaining tooth.
That depends on the degree of inflammation. Sometimes a calming medicinal preparation is first placed in the tooth and the system provisionally sealed. The final gutta-percha filling then takes place in a second, relaxed and low-discomfort appointment a few days later.
A tooth from which the nerve has been removed is no longer supplied with blood internally. The remaining tooth substance can become more porous and brittle over the years. We therefore recommend a protective crown in most cases after completion of treatment.
